HISTORY

Glenallachie Distillery is one of the youngest distilleries in the Speyside region and, at the same time, one of those that has undergone the most remarkable transformation in recent decades.

It was founded in 1967 by Macinlay McPherson, a subsidiary of Scottish & Newcastle, and designed by renowned distillery architect William Delmé-Evans. The plant was conceived with an innovative gravity-feed design, which reduced energy consumption and improved production efficiency. Its initial aim was not to produce a prestige single malt, but rather to produce malt whisky for blending, a common purpose for many distilleries built during that period.

The big change came in 2017, when the distillery was acquired by Billy Walker, along with Trisha Savage and Graham Stevenson. Walker was already a highly respected figure for having revitalized other Scottish distilleries.

In just a few years, GlenAllachie went from being a virtually unknown distillery among single malt enthusiasts to becoming one of Scotland's most awarded brands. Its expressions are distinguished by the intensive aging process using casks previously used for Pedro Ximenez, Oloroso, red wine, and virgin oak, which impart notes of dried fruit, honey, chocolate, spices, and coffee.

Currently, it is one of the few Speyside distilleries that remains in the hands of an independent company, with more than 50,000 casks stored in its own warehouses and a strong reputation among whisky aficionados for the excellent value for money of its bottles.
