Old Particular Port Dundas 21 years 70cl. Case

Single Grain Scotch Whiskey from the defunct Port Dundas Distillery, bottled independently by Douglas Laing within its prestigious Old Particular series. The distillery closed in 2011, so these bottles are increasingly scarce.

If you like aged grain whiskeys, it is a highly recommended bottle. The 21 years give it a creamy texture and a great influence from the barrel, without losing the sweet character typical of grain whiskey. Furthermore, as it comes from a closed distillery, it is of interest to collectors.

Winemaking

It follows the traditional process of Scotch grain whiskey, the raw material used mainly is corn, complemented with a small proportion of malted barley to provide the enzymes necessary for fermentation. The grains are ground and mixed with hot water to extract the fermentable sugars.

The distillation is carried out in a continuous column, typical of grain whiskey. The distillate is then transferred to Refill Hogshead-type American oak barrels (reused barrel), where it remains for 21 years.

Finally it is bottled without cold filtration and without added coloring.

As it comes from a single barrel, each batch is limited and may offer slight differences compared to other editions.

Tasting notes

Intense gold color with amber reflections.

Nose:

Aromas of vanilla, pastry cream and caramel are perceived. Hints of lemon tart and soft honey. Delicate oak wood with a spicy touch.

Creamy and silky texture. Flavors of toffee, shortbread and vanilla. Ripe apple and sweet cereal with light notes of coconut and toasted oak. Long and warm finish where vanilla, caramel and sweet fruits persist. Elegant, dry oak balances the sweetness.
