Château Mouton Rothschild 2018
Château Mouton Rothschild 2018 is one of Bordeaux's great wines and is considered by many critics to be one of the best Moutons of recent decades. It comes from the Pauillac appellation and was produced in an exceptional vintage marked by a warm summer and very complete grape ripening.
Although it can already be enjoyed after a long period of settling, most specialists believe that it will reach its peak between 2028 and 2055, with the potential to evolve beyond 2060.

Winemaking
Grapes: 86% Cabernet Sauvignon, 12% Merlot, 2% Cabernet Franc
It was made from grapes sourced exclusively from the estate's vineyards in Pauillac, situated on deep gravel soils that are particularly well-suited to Cabernet Sauvignon. The 2018 vintage was marked by a wet spring, followed by an exceptionally warm and dry summer. The harvest was carried out entirely by hand with a very rigorous selection of the grapes. Each plot was vinified separately to preserve its specific characteristics. The wine aged for approximately 22 months in 100% new French oak barrels, largely made by the estate's own cooperage, allowing for very precise control over the oak quality and toasting.
Tasting notes
View:
A very intense, almost opaque purple color. Bright with dense, abundant tears.
Nose:
Highly complex and profound, with several aromatic layers of ripe black fruits, cedar, cigars, and graphite. Floral notes of violet, licorice, cocoa, and roasted coffee. Hints of mint and aromatic herbs.
Mouth:
A powerful and enveloping entry, with great volume and concentration yet a surprising sense of freshness. Abundant, extremely fine, and silky tannins. Excellent balance between fruit, acidity, and oak. Persistent flavors of blackcurrant, cocoa, cedar, and spices. A very long, elegant, and mineral finish that lingers for over a minute.
If you plan to drink it now, in 2026, it's best to decant it for 2 to 4 hours, tasting the wine every 30 minutes to observe its evolution. If the bottle is more than 15-20 years old, the decanting period should be shorter; 30 to 60 minutes is usually sufficient. It should be served in a Bordeaux-style glass made of thin, clear crystal, with a wide, tall bowl and a slightly narrow rim to concentrate the aromas.
Food pairing
The perfect pairing must match its power, complexity, and elegance. The most classic combinations, difficult to surpass, are: grilled ribeye steak from mature beef, roasted shoulder or leg of suckling lamb with herbs, venison loin with a red wine reduction, or duck breast with a light red fruit sauce or port reduction.
Ideal accompaniment for aged cheeses such as Manchego Viejo, long-maturing Comté and 36-month aged Parmigiano Reggiano.
