Tomatin 15 Years Madeira Cask – Case 70cl.
The Tomatin 15 Years Madeira Cask Edition is one of the star pieces of The Portuguese Collection. Unlike the usual brief refinements in the industry, this edition stands out for having spent almost half of its entire life maturing in fortified Madeira wine barrels.
Tomatin's Country Collections represent an ambitious project by the distillery to explore how its smooth, fruity Highland spirit is transformed by interacting with the oak and wine traditions of three great European nations: France, Portugal and Italy. The common thread of the entire saga is respect for the raw material: all expressions are bottled at 46% ABV, without cold filtering and maintaining their natural color extracted 100% from the wood.
The collection is made up of three limited edition single malts:
- Madeira Edition
- Moscatel Edition
- Port Edition

Winemaking
The production process began on September 8, 2006 in high-necked copper stills. The high contact with copper eliminates heavy sulfur compounds, producing a fine, light and delicate distillate. The clear distillate was initially introduced into ex-Bourbon American oak barrels. Over 8 years in the distillery's Highland warehouses, the whiskey developed its classic base of vanilla, green apple and sweet malt.
Madeira Edition
On April 23, 2015, the whiskey was transferred to barrels that had contained fortified Madeira wine (from the prestigious Blandy's winery). Madeira wine is a Portuguese fortified wine famous for its maturation process under heat and controlled oxidation, which gives it rich, caramelized and slightly acidic notes.
Tasting notes
View:
It presents a deep golden amber color with showy copper and mahogany highlights. In the glass it forms dense tears with a slow fall, an unequivocal example of its 46% ABV, its oily texture and the absence of cold filtration.
Nose:
A vibrant and very aromatic entry. Pure honey and fresh lemon peel immediately stand out, quickly followed by richer and more intense notes of toffee caramel, toasted butter and spiced roasted apple. In the background there is a slight nuance of dried fruits and soft oak.
Mouth:
Unctuous, silky and enveloping entry. The palate is sweet but with a very well balanced acidity: deep flavors of peaches in syrup, caramelized apples, citrus jam and a creamy touch of praline and hazelnuts emerge. The influence of Madeira wine provides a rich bittersweet complexity that fills the entire palate. Medium-long persistence, warm and elegant. It gives off memories of molasses, notes of toasted wood and a spicy citrus nuance (cinnamon and clove) that leaves a clean and comforting sensation.
