PRODUCTION
The inspiration for creating The Botanist Islay Dry Gin comes from Islay, a fertile and wild island of the Hebrides on Scotland’s west coast; it is a rare expression of the heart and soul of the remote Scottish island. It is crafted through slow distillation in a uniquely modified Lomond still with 22 sustainably hand-foraged local botanicals, which delicately enhance nine berries, barks, peels, and seeds: cassia, coriander, juniper, orange, cinnamon, lemon, licorice, angelica root, and orris root.
TASTING
Appearance: Crystal clear.
Nose: Fresh, herbal aromas of juniper and sweet citrus come to the forefront. Sweet, spicy, and earthy notes of cassia and coriander appear, laying the foundation for the delicate complexity of Islay 22. The aroma of the botanicals rises gently, with wild hints of mint, thyme, sweet gale, gorse, and chamomile.
Palate: Rich and smooth, fresh on entry and then warming on the palate, stimulating the taste buds with a round mouthfeel and citrus freshness. Balance and complexity are distinctive. Sweet and earthy notes combine with delicate floral and herbal notes. Each sip reveals deeper layers and more complex combinations of delicate flavors. The finish is relaxed and balanced. Water mint, hawthorn, wood sage, sweet cicely, cinnamon, citrus, soft juniper: a harmonious combination held together by a smooth, satin texture. The viscosity of slow distillation highlights the delicate essence of Islay, expressing a different balance of flavor, a different combination of botanicals, for every taste.
