Red Worm Mezcal 70cl.
Gusano Rojo Mezcal is one of the most popular mezcals in Mexico, a smooth blend with a smoky flavor and representative of a classic mezcal that has been improved and tested by time. At the end of the 16th century, distillation was introduced to Mexico by the Spanish and since then mezcal has been processed in an artisanal way with some advanced changes. Legend has it that in the past, when there were no laboratories or methods to detect whether a product was suitable for human consumption, distillers dropped the worm that reproduces on the leaves of the agave into the tequila or maguey. The basic rule was that if the worm continued to writhe when it reached the bottom of the bottle, the liquor was safe to drink. If the worm died on the way down, the tequila was considered unfit for human consumption. Nowadays mezcal with red or golden worm is considered a delicacy and aphrodisiac properties are attributed to it.
