Winemaking
The Ron Pura Vida Its production process is a work of distillate engineering, combining the biodiversity and climate of Costa Rica with multi-barrel aging techniques inspired by Bordeaux and Jerez.
Like the brand's most select expressions, Pura Vida XO Rum is made from the mixture of three different distillates obtained from sugar cane grown in Costa Rica:
-
Pure cane juice rum (guarapo)
-
Cane honey rum (meladura)
-
Molasses rum
Independent fermentations are developed for each of the three raw materials using yeast strains selected to enhance the primary aromas of Costa Rican sugarcane. A system is used that combines traditional copper stills (pot stills) and distillation columns, seeking the maximum purity of the alcohol without losing the organic identity and complex of origin.
The real secret of the XO profile lies in its prolonged aging phase. The rum rests for a long period under the warm and humid climatic conditions of Costa Rica, which drastically accelerates the interaction with the wood and the concentration of compounds. To achieve the complexity typical of an Extra Old category, the liquid is matured and refined in a rotation of high-end barrels, ex-bourbon American oak barrels and bsherry wine barrels (such as Oloroso, Amontillado or Pedro Ximénez) and French oak/cognac barrels
In the final phase, the master blenders of Les Bienheureux carefully select the best batches of these barrels to unify them into a harmonious assembly. The result is an XO rum with a velvety texture, a perfect balance between tropical power and European refinement, ready to be bottled in its characteristic luxury format.
Tasting notes
View:
Deep and dark mahogany color, with amber and copper highlights, exhibiting a dense and slow tear that shows its great body and structure.
Nose:
An enveloping and mature aromatic symphony. Predominant notes of Madagascar vanilla, toasted caramel, noble wood and dried fruits (such as walnuts and hazelnuts) stand out, accompanied by subtle nuances of blonde tobacco, fine leather and a spicy background of cinnamon and clove.
Mouth:
Silky, unctuous entry with great breadth on the palate. It has a velvety texture where flavors of aged molasses, bitter cocoa, candied orange and a toasted touch merge, culminating in a very long, warm and harmonious finish.
Food pairing
It is a rum designed for contemplation and calm. Served in a tulip-type tasting glass and left to rest for a few minutes, it unfolds all its aromatic richness without the need for additions.
Its tannic complexity and balanced sweetness make it the perfect companion for a good Havana cigar, a piece of high-purity dark chocolate (70% or higher) or as a finishing touch after a special meal.
