Johnnie Walker Black Label Year of the Horse - Chinese NY Ed.
The prestigious annual limited editions that Johnnie Walker dedicates to the Chinese New Year —including the commemorative edition of the Year of the Horse— are officially launched based on their ultimate expression of luxury, Johnnie Walker Blue Label, rather than the Black Label range. For this special edition, Johnnie Walker teamed up with acclaimed couture designer Robert Wun. The design reimagines the horse through an avant-garde, sculptural lens, capturing energy, strength, elegance and a tireless forward drive. This aesthetic visually reflects the spirit of improvement and progress characteristic of the brand motto Keep Walking.

Winemaking
Since this commemorative edition of theYear of the Horse, contains within it the prestigious Johnnie Walker Blue Label, its production process elaboration does not respond to a conventional distillate, but to a masterpiece of selection and blending. The pillar of its production lies in access to the company's vast private reserves. Of all the barrels maturing in Scotland's warehouses, only 1 in 10,000 possesses the depth, character and exceptional quality required to be part of this blend. Its formula includes whiskeys from legendary distilleries that closed decades ago and no longer operate (the so-called ghost distilleries such as Port Ellen or Brora, among others). This provides a historical and unrepeatable complexity that no standard whiskey can replicate.
A team of expert blenders oversee the meticulous blending of grain and malt whiskeys from the four corners of Scotland (Speyside, Highlands, Lowlands and Islay). The goal is not to simply blend, but to balance the fruity notes of Speyside, the robustness of the Highlands and the subtle hint of west coast smoke for a perfectly integrated symphony of flavors.
The components of the blend have matured for many years in American oak and European oak barrels previously seasoned with sherry wine. This wood provides deep layers of dried fruits, sweet spices (cinnamon and cloves), velvety vanilla and a natural golden amber tone. The final liquid is assembled with absolute precision and reduced with pure spring water until reaching 40% ABV, preserving an extremely silky texture, a dense body and a long, luxurious finish
Tasting notes
View:
Deep and radiant amber, with golden flashes that reflect the maturity and exclusivity of the selected barrels.
Nose:
Opulent, sweet and extremely cozy. Waves of dried fruits predominate, highlighting prunes, ripe figs and currants. Clear hints of toasted oak, velvety vanilla and a warm base of cinnamon, cloves and fresh orange zest. A very subtle, elegant and perfectly integrated echo of refined smoke.
Mouth:
Extraordinarily silky, dense, unctuous and full-bodied on the palate. It unfolds successive layers of flavor that combine dark figs, candied cherries, deep notes of dark chocolate, espresso and a creamy touch of toffee. A range of warm spices appears that provide complexity and balance without saturating the taste buds. Long, luxurious and exceptionally enveloping. It leaves a lingering trail of lively oak, dried fruit and a final whisper of clean, sophisticated smoke.
Food pairing
On its own, it is the ideal way to taste it to appreciate the absolute complexity and softness of its most precious reserves.
With a touch of mineral water, it helps unlock secondary aromas, further highlighting the sweet malt notes and more subtle oak spices.
