Caisteal Chamuis Heavily Peated Bourbon Finish 70cl. Case

Caisteal Chamuis Heavily Peated Bourbon Finish 70cl. Case

Blended malt Scotch whiskey made by Mossburn Distillers. It takes its name from Caisteal Chamuis Castle, on the Isle of Skye. Although it is presented as "Heavily Peated", it is not aggressive. The bourbon barrel finish balances the smoke with sweet notes of vanilla and oak, making it very approachable even for those just starting out with tubed whiskeys. It offers a coastal and smoky profile, but with a softer and rounder character thanks to its aging in ex-bourbon barrels.

Presented in a case with the illustration of the castle, very attractive as a gift even before opening the bottle. It has a modern aesthetic but with a strong traditional Scottish feel.

Winemaking

Mossburn Distillers produces this whiskey following a process designed to achieve a very smoky profile, but balanced and easy to drink. Although the brand does not reveal the exact origin of all the malts used, it does explain the general lines of its production. It is a Blended Malt Scotch Whisky, which means that it is made exclusively with malt whiskeys from various Scottish distilleries. Does not contain grain whiskey.

Each whiskey matures separately in a combination of first-fill American oak barrels and refill bourbon barrels. Once the desired profile is achieved, the different malts are carefully blended to achieve a balance between peat smoke, salinity and sweetness.

After assembly, it undergoes an additional period of refining in first-fill ex-bourbon barrels. Finally, the whiskey is bottled without cold filtration or added coloring.

Tasting notes

View:

Bright golden color with light amber reflections.

Nose:

The first impression is dominated by a clean and elegant peat smoke, accompanied by a marked coastal influence. Aromas of smoke, peat, vanilla and pastry cream are appreciated. Honey, caramel and citrus can also be appreciated.

Mouth:

The entry is soft and creamy. Flavors of peat smoke, vanilla, toffee and malt biscuit stand out. Toasted almond and oak wood. Salty touches, black pepper and nutmeg. Long and persistent finish, elegant smokiness. Memories of vanilla and lightly toasted oak. The aftertaste leaves a pleasant sensation of sweet smoke that remains for several minutes.
