Description
PREPARATION
The Glenrothes Oldest Reserve is made with a blend of aged whiskey from a variety of years to create this very special and exciting expression, with distillates from 1967, 1972, 1977, 1979, 1980 and has been matured for at least 30 years, some much longer. These wonderful unique barrels show a unique and very mature personality. The Glenrothes is one of the few distilleries in Scotland to have its own water source for alcohol production, processing and reduction, right on the estate, a natural river dividing it in two. The liquor is carefully nurtured in the distillery's tall copper stills for much longer than is strictly necessary. Slow distillation provides a lighter and fruitier spirit, removing more impurities and allowing the production of a spirit with a more delicate flavor.
TASTING
View:
Intense, clear and bright amber color.
Nose:
Dried grapes and berries are combined with caramelized sugar and milk chocolate, meadow herbs and a slightly minty freshness. Orange peel, notes of grapefruit and lemon, raisins and delicately spicy wood tones accompanied by mandarin oranges and light floral influences.
Mouth:
The first sip flows smooth and slightly acidic on the palate. White pepper sprinkles spicy wood and dried fruits, grated orange and grapefruit fall into creamy dark chocolate, a few drops of espresso and tart cherry juice leave a delicately tart and minimally tart fruit note on the palate. At the end of the aftertaste, the hazelnuts stick to the palate.
