Description
PREPARATION
Around a third of the selected barrels were seasoned with Oloroso sherry by three wineries in Jerez de la Frontera. The other barrels were ex-bourbon. Glenrothes Single Malt Scotch Whiskey is made from plump, mature Scottish barley that is malted and fermented with water from springs in Ardcanny and Brauchhill, which are located next to the distillery. After fermentation, the grains are distilled twice in Glenrothes' copper stills, which were designed and manufactured to be exact replicas of the original stills installed in 1879. They are incredibly tall and uniquely shaped, contributing to the overall light and sweet flavor of the whiskey. After distillation, The Glenrothes stills remove the heads and tails from the distillate, retaining only the "hearts" for maturation.
TASTING
View:
Bright amber in color.
Nose:
Notes of dried flowers, cereals and butterscotch and toffee.
Mouth:
In the mouth it gently notes honey, fruit jam and apple. Quite sweet and vanilla. A little coconut. More depth when the spices take effect (mostly cinnamon). The finish is medium length with a lovely spicy profile (nutmeg, cinnamon, vanilla).
