It has two “wash stills”, stills for the first distillation, the resulting product is the “low wine” (which has 25% alcohol) and strangely three “spirit stills”, which are the stills for a second distillation and in this case, the product is called “new make spirit” with an alcohol percentage of 72%. One of these last three stills remains in the same place it occupied in the previous period of 1928, when Talisker produced its malt whiskey through the triple distillation process. The current owner is Diageo, since 1997. Prizes:

Description
PREPARATION
Talisker Skye single malt whiskey has been aged in American oak barrels, using, for this whiskey, a higher proportion of toasted barrels than in other Talisker. The process begins with barley malt, which is steeped and allowed to germinate before being dried with peat smoke, contributing to Talisker's characteristic smoky flavors. The malt is then ground and mixed with hot water to extract the sugars and create a wort. The must ferments in wooden fermentation vats, using selected yeasts, which convert the sugars into alcohol. After fermentation, the resulting liquid, known as wash, is distilled twice in traditional copper stills.
TASTING
View: Bright copper color.
Nose: Smooth with orange sweetness.
Mouth:
Rich and balanced. At first soft and sweet with slightly smoky notes. Dark chocolate, pepper, red fruits, spices, toffee candies, sea salt. Long, warm finish with notes of pepper and final touches of sweet smoke that linger. Adding a little water moderates the spicy and smoky flavor but the flavor still has pleasant notes of the sea.
