PRODUCTION
The Mombasa Club Colonel’s Reserve gin is crafted in the classic English style with seven botanicals, among which stand out: caraway seed, instead of angelica, and the addition of calamus, an aquatic plant that usually grows in marshy areas of Europe and America.
Its production starts from a rectified alcohol of the highest quality, used to macerate all the botanicals overnight. The next day, it is distilled in small stainless-steel stills created by the first London manufacturer “John Dore”.
The result is reduced with deionized water and left to rest for 10 days. This resting period allows all the fine aromas to come together and yield Mombasa Gin Club Colonel’s Reserve, a genuine London Dry with a harmonious botanical fusion.
TASTING
Appearance: Crystal-clear, clean and bright.
Nose: Aromatically, it shows harmony, a perfect fusion among the botanicals (cassia, caraway, calamus), subtly highlighting its more floral and citrus side due to coriander seeds and the eccentricity of calamus. Juniper, quite simply, accompanies from a place of restraint. A few seconds of resting in the glass magnify the gin, creating a whole medley of complexity and excellent botanical base.
Palate: On the palate, it offers a silky texture, subtly supported by its well-distributed sweet echo. The aromatic finish, its persistence, is the second value of this gin, which reveals a long and calm maceration of the botanicals.
