Winemaking
Grapes: 90% Tempranillo, 10% Graciano
The Marqués de Riscal Reservas are basically made from grapes from Tempranillo vines planted before the 1970s, located in the best calcareous clay soils of the Rioja Alavesa. This variety supports aging in wood and bottle aging well thanks to its good acid balance and fine tannicity. The Graciano variety, whose percentage in the mixture does not exceed 10%, provides freshness and vividness of color. Fermentation takes place at a controlled temperature with a maceration time that does not exceed 12 days. The Riscal reserves remain for approximately two years in American oak barrels, creating a wine that fits within the canons of Riojan classicism, fresh, fine, elegant and with great aging potential. Before going on the market, it has a minimum bottle aging period of one year.
Tasting notes
View:
Very covered, intense cherry-colored wine with hardly any signs of evolution.
Nose:
The nose is very expressive with notes of licorice, cinnamon and black pepper, where the long aging in wood is barely noticeable, thanks to its great complexity and concentration of ripe fruit.
Mouth:
In the mouth it is fresh, with very pleasant polished tannins, with good structure but easy to drink. The finish is long and leaves slight balsamic memories of great quality
Recommended temperature: Between 16º and 18ºC.
Food pairing
This wine pairs well with ham, not very cured cheeses, stews with not very spicy sauces, cooked or stewed legumes, poultry, red meats, grilled meats and roasts.
