Description
PRODUCTION
The estate of François Voyer is located in the communes of Verrières and Ambleville in the Premier Cru of Grande Champagne. This cognac is made entirely from Ugni Blanc grapes grown in their small vineyards in Grande Champagne. After Voyer's characteristic distillation process (carried out on the lees and very slowly in traditional Charentais stills), the spirit has been aged in new Limousin oak barrels during the first 3 years of maturation. The rest is aged in cognac barrels. The XO Gold Exception Grande Champagne 1er Cru Old cognac contains spirits aged between 20 and 30 years, at which point it has developed astonishing levels of complexity and depth of flavor.
TASTING NOTES
Appearance: Amber color with touches of aged gold.
Nose: Sweetness in its aromas. The floral notes blur to make way for fuller scents of vanilla and nuts (walnuts, hazelnuts), which mingle with aromas of spices and black pepper, with the woody touches that characterize long aging in oak barrels.
Palate: Intense floral flavors, accompanied by wood spices, old leather, white sultanas, dried peach and apricot, cedarwood, tobacco, vanilla, dark chocolate, espresso, sweet toffee, and cinnamon. It is characterized at once by its intensity and its refined unctuousness. Its length on the palate is exceptional. It has preserved, from the nobility of its origins, the vigor of Grande Champagne and of its aging.
