The soul of Virou dates back to the 17th century. The farm, then devoid of vines, was one of the two great relays of silence of the Order of the Discalced Carmelites. Called Saint Désert du Virou, this place of worship and prayer welcomed monks from all over France to meet in silence. For almost two centuries, the monks built this vast monastery and developed numerous underground passages that connected the Virou with the various strategic points of the region. Partially condemned or destroyed during the sale of the property after the French Revolution, only a chapel and three underground passages remain from this period. The monastery, after having been practically destroyed, was partially rebuilt by the Delbos family, owners of the estate between 1791 and 1919. Pierre Jean Larraqué attaches great importance to the history of its properties. For him, they represent an inheritance that he must pass on. A historical heritage that wants to continue giving life through its wines and these magnificent places. Thus, since the acquisition of Virou in 2013, a project has been launched to rehabilitate these historic places. With the start of the first works in 2015, Virou continues writing his story.
