Bruichladdich Octomore Edition 13.2 70cl. - Case
Bruichladdich Octomore Edition 13.2 is a single malt in which the Antique Oloroso casks take this Octomore expression in a completely new direction. At Fernando de Castilla, the Jerez-based winery from which these previously sherry casks come, they are made under the same guiding principles inherent to the Bruichladdich distillery: with quality, the manufacturer's craftsmanship and exceptional taste in mind. Delicate smoke and nutty citrus aromas belie the intense depth of flavor on the palate, with a contrasting combination that works wonderfully. Presentation: Bottle with case.

Description
PREPARATION
Bruichladdich Octomore Edition 13.2 continues the series and is also an excellent alternative to the 13.1 due to the five-year storage in first-fill sherry butts. It is distilled from 100% Scottish continental barley and has been malted to the same 137.3 PPM. However, the entire maturation in first-fill Oloroso sherry butts from Jerez, Spain, offers a unique opportunity to compare the two spirits, with the influence of the sherry wonderfully complementing the smoke and vibrancy of the single malt. Using the same batch of heavily peated barley for both 13.1 and 13.2 provides a fascinating insight into the influence different cask types have on Octomore spirit, with the maritime flavor of Islay maturation complemented by nutty, orange and dried fruit notes from Oloroso sherry.
TASTING
View:
Amber color.
Nose:
Highly aromatic, this dram opens with salty, nutty smoke with milk chocolate and leathery tobacco. Oloroso casks have shaped this whiskey with rich syrupy orange and grapefruit citrus, along with hints of clove and nutty cinnamon and praline. As it opens further, brown sugar, raisins, dried apple, melon and ripe pears come to the fore, with a soft peat smoke beautifully interwoven.
Mouth:
It has a wonderful viscosity and presence on the palate. Notes of smoky nuts and leather, warm orange marmalade on fresh scones. Dried apricot and hints of spicy spice towards the finish. Finish in which the earthy smoke of the peat comes to the fore with a little time, along with the fruity and nutty aromas of the Oloroso barrels. The saltiness of the sea breeze creates a lively combination of flavors to finish.
