PREPARATION

Drambuie is made with a delicious blend of aged Scotch whiskey, spices, herbs and heather honey. Its story began in 1745 when it arrived on British shores under the guardianship of its original custodian, Prince Charles Edward Stuart (known as Bonnie Prince Charlie). It was his personal drink, he drank a few drops every day to give him strength and vitality. In gratitude for his unwavering loyalty, the Prince gave John MacKinnon, the clan's leader, the secret recipe for his personal liquor. John's son James Ross registered a patent for the name Drambuie in 1893. His widow Eleanor later moved with the recipe to Edinburgh, where in 1909 she worked with Malcolm MacKinnon, a whiskey wholesaler, and began producing Drambuie in Edinburgh. 100 years later, in 2014, the Drambuie recipe is passed down from one family business to another when William Grant & Sons acquires the brand. Since delivery, the recipe has been kept in a safe at their premises near Glasgow. Only three people know her, one of whom personally blends each batch of Drambuie essence and is the fifth generation of founder William Grant.
