Description
PREPARATION
This distillery still carries out the malting process themselves for 20% of their needs; They soak the barley, germinate it and dry it. Laphroaig's sweet notes come from the exclusive use of barrels that previously held Maker's Mark bourbon whiskey. The vanilla character gives balance to the “new make spirit” (alcohol resulting from distillation). Another characteristic of this distillery is that its stills are narrower in size than in neighboring distilleries. For this reason, they cut the “new make spirit” later, when discarding the beginning and the end, in this way they obtain the maximum of pitch phenols that give it that characteristic aroma. The result is that they manage to obtain the single malt whiskey with the most sea influence on the entire island of Islay. Medicinal, iodine, smoked fish, engine room, smoke, flavors softened by the sweetness of the oak from the barrel.
