Description
PRODUCTION
In 1870, Maurice Hennessy introduced a new style of cognac by creating Hennessy XO, which was one of the first cognacs classified as “extra old (XO)”, due to its prolonged aging process. Hennessy XO is the Original, the emblematic icon of the House of Hennessy. Deep and powerful, the eaux-de-vie used to make this cognac are matured in young barrels and are characterized by their strength and energy, but also by their ability to achieve great roundness over time. The result is an authentic cognac, structured, broad on the palate and with spicy nuances.
In 1947, Gérald de Geoffrey designed the first Hennessy XO decanter at the request of Maurice Hennessy. The young marquis wanted to give it an aura worthy of the cognac it contained, combining soft curves and a powerful silhouette, a tribute to the pyramidal shapes of grape clusters that give rise to the eaux-de-vie used in its production.
TASTING
Appearance: Golden color with brick and reddish hues.
Nose: Delicate, structured and generous aroma. Fragrances of oak, leather and flowers.
Palate: Sweet notes. The palate is warmly welcomed by candied fruit flavors. The intriguing sensation of an intense, rising warmth slowly reveals the complex flavor of the eau-de-vie patiently aged in oak barrels. Perception of a strong note of spicy cognac, tempting the lips and palate with its distinctive spicy flavor and a robust, full and voluptuous presence of rich dark chocolate. Suddenly, a surprising sensation is felt: the vigorous flow of oak notes interwoven with vanilla. The evanescent oak notes leave a long, all-pervading finish in their wake. Apparently endless, it echoes all the subtleties of every taste and sensation that preceded it.
