Description

Winemaking

Grapes: Chardonnay and Pinot Noir Premier Cru and Grand Cru.

Alfred Gratien Champagnes are made in an artisanal way in the heart of a Champagne vineyard, where Alfred Gratien established his business and created his first cuvées in 1864. Alfred Gratien Cuvée Paradis Brut 2014 is made through careful selection of the grapes, vinification and aging are carried out in small 228-liter oak barrels following the tradition, and a deliberate limitation of volume. An additional unique aspect of Maison Alfred Gratien is the decision to avoid malolactic fermentation to respect the characters of the grape and terroir. A true indicator of quality, this constant attention to detail is what makes Alfred Gratien Champagne so unique and valued at every level.

Tasting notes

View: Very fine, delicately effervescent color, with ascending vertical columns of small, elegant bubbles reminiscent of lace.

Nose: The initial nose has discreet but rich aromas of sponge cake, grapefruit, orange peel and almond. These are followed by a more exotic note of passion fruit, pineapple, lime, silver ragwort and seaweed. To then give way to the tempting fragrance of brioche. It is a complex and very original set of aromas.

Mouth: The attack on the palate is delicate and develops smoothly. The bubbles seem to melt into the body of the wine, which is robust, and supported by the sugar content it achieves a comforting creamy texture that is particularly pleasant, almost reminiscent of umami. Throughout the tasting the acidity intensifies, culminating in a very long finish (more than 10 seconds) and with a burst of intense flavors: acidity, sweetness and salinity. It closes with a chalky minerality, with aromas of honey and brioche lingering on the palate.

Recommended temperature: 10-12ºC.

Food pairing

Take advantage of the creamy texture of this Champagne to accompany tender fish or poultry with cream or butter sauces. It also combines perfectly with prawns.
