Description
Winemaking
Grapes: Chardonnay, Pinot Noir and Pinot Meunier.
Alfred Gratien Brut is made following high quality standards in the selection of grapes, through traditional vinification and aging in small 228-liter oak barrels, self-imposed limits on production levels, without using malolactic fermentation to ensure that it maintains its original character. This preserves the aroma of the grapes and the land from which they come, and the wine retains its freshness, even as it ages. This special care ensures the unique quality that makes Alfred Gratien truly exceptional. The contact between the wine and the barrel favors microoxygenation, which nourishes the wine and gives it body and a certain roundness. This is the secret behind Alfred Gratien's distinctive style. The time the wine is left in the cellar is a decisive factor. Classic Brut Cuvées like this one stay for 4 years, vintages for at least 10, and Cuvée Paradis spends 6 to 7 years in the cellar.
Tasting notes
View: Pale yellow tone with effervescence. The bubbles are small and rise quickly to form a fine foam.
Nose: The nose is moderately intense but complex. Sweet notes of pastry, cookies and orchard fruits are followed and enhanced by hints of citrus, white flowers and fresh butter.
Mouth: The initial flavor is clean: it is a very silky sparkling wine whose sugar content adapts well to its body. There is some chalky minerality and the texture is smooth. It has character without being authoritarian. The finish is fresh, with a slight mineral nuance and lasts 6 to 8 seconds. It leaves an excellently balanced acid aftertaste, with a sugary component that is undeniably pleasant to the palate.
Recommended temperature: 8-10ºC.
Food pairing
Avoid anything that is too salty, sugary, fatty or spicy, opting for balance. Ideal for your salty or sweet and sour hors d'oeuvres and appetizers.
