Description
PREPARATION
Advocaat Bols is made with egg yolks as well as sugar, vanilla, brandy and other alcohols. It is named after the Aztec "ahuacatl" which the Spanish borrowed for "aguacate" and the Dutch for Advocaat. Originally produced in the Dutch Antilles, and very popular in Germany, Belgium and the Netherlands, the original Advocaat recipe included avocado mixed with rum, however, the fruit was replaced by egg, as it was impossible to find it in Europe at the time. The history of Bols liqueurs begins in 1575, when Lucas Bols opened a small distillery on the outskirts of Amsterdam. Around 1652, Lucas distributed liqueurs internationally and became a shareholder in a company with interests in Dutch India, a privilege he used to import exotic herbs and spices, further increasing the fame of Bols liqueurs, who went on to create up to 300 recipes.
