Description
PREPARATION
Grapes: 89% Tempranillo and 11% Graciano.
For the production of Gran Reserva 904 red wine the grapes were collected in boxes and transported to the winery in refrigerated trucks to preserve their integrity. After gentle destemming and crushing, the musts went to the tanks where they underwent alcoholic fermentation for 17 days. The selected batches then completed malolactic fermentation naturally in 75 days. In June 2012, the chosen wines were placed in 4.5-year-old American oak barrels, where they remained for 4 years. During their aging they were racked eight times by the traditional method, from barrel to barrel. The final blend was bottled in November 2016. Bodegas La Rioja Alta began its history in 1890, when five Rioja and Basque families founded the La Rioja Alta Wine Society in the Estación neighborhood of Haro. The Frenchman Monsieur Vigier was the first winemaker of the house and the Reserva 1890 (predecessor of the current Gran Reserva 890) was the first wine made by the Winery.
