Description
PREPARATION
Grapes: 94% Tempranillo and 6% Graciano.
For the production of Viña Arana Gran Reserva 2014 red wine the harvest began with the Tempranillo variety and, 20 days later, the Graciano de Montecillo was harvested. All the grapes were transported refrigerated in small boxes to preserve their integrity. Alcoholic fermentation took place in stainless steel tanks for 19 days. After malolactic fermentation, in April 2015 a selection of wines was made for aging in self-made American oak barrels with an average age of 4.5 years. They remained in barrels for three years, being racked by the traditional method every 6 months. In April 2018 the last blend was made, which was bottled in June 2018. Bodegas La Rioja Alta began its history in 1890, when five Rioja and Basque families founded the La Rioja Alta Wine Society in the Estación neighborhood of Haro. The Frenchman Monsieur Vigier was the first winemaker of the house and the Reserva 1890 (predecessor of the current Gran Reserva 890) was the first wine made by the Winery.
TASTING
View: Clean garnet color, medium layer and incipient pink edge.
Nose: Of high aromatic intensity, the marked aromas of currants, raspberries, wild blackberries and ripe red plum stand out, creating a complex bouquet along with the balsamic notes of its barrel aging: vanilla, cloves, coffee, caramel and brioche.
Mouth: Complex and elegant. Very tasty in the mouth, it stands out for its classic texture. It is fresh, vibrant and balanced, with friendly and sweet tannins.
Recommended temperature: 17ºC.
