In 1974 Tomatin became the largest distillery in Scotland. At the time it was considered one of the most important producers on the market and one of the few distillers to offer its brand as a single malt, initially 5 years old and later also 10 years old. The vast majority of the whiskey made at Tomatin was sold in bulk to third-party companies and was used in many famous blended whiskeys such as J&B, Chivas Regal and Johnnie Walker. In the 1980s, whiskey consumption declined and the brand disappeared. In 1986 it reappeared with Japanese financial support and today it is one of the quality Single Malt whiskey brands most appreciated by great experts.
