Winemaking
The basic components used to make Disaronno —natural almonds, Madagascar vanilla, and pure caramelized sugar—along with added aromas and alcoholic complexity, make Disaronno a distinctive and unique liqueur. Its warm and refined flavor dates back to the Renaissance. In 1525, the artist Bernardino Luini, a brilliant disciple of Leonardo da Vinci, was commissioned to paint a fresco of the Virgin of Miracles in Saronno, where the work is still displayed. To portray the Virgin, he chose a beautiful local innkeeper as his model. As a token of gratitude, the innkeeper prepared a special gift for the artist: a bottle filled with an amber-colored, aromatic, and delicate liqueur. Thus, the legend of Disaronno was born, from a simple gesture of courtesy and a handcrafted drink made with secret ingredients. Years later, in 1600, Giovanni Reina discovered the innkeeper's old recipe and carefully preserved it, passing it down from generation to generation. In the early years of the 20th century, Domenico Reina began producing and marketing Disaronno Originale in Milan.
