Laphroaig Oak Select is a Scotch whiskey from the D.O. Islay, produced by the Laphroaig Distillery. This distillery, which has been producing spirits for more than 200 years, is located on Islay, the southernmost island of the Inner Hebrides (Scotland). This whiskey is inspired by Ian Hunter, one of the most important distillers in the long history of the winery. Ian was the last member of the family that owned the distillery and also the one who discovered, on a trip to Bourbon (United States), new American barrels that would provide new flavors and greater consistency to the whiskeys produced by the distillery. It has a characteristic and penetrating peat smell, together with the complexity and depth provided by the fusion of different woods. PREPARATION
Laphroaig Oak Select Whiskey is the brand's most accessible whiskey. It is made up of a blend of hand-selected pure malts from five different barrels. Includes whiskeys from Laphroaig Quarter Cask, PX Cask, Triple Wood and Laphroaig 10 Year Old. Finally, it is matured in new American oak barrels, rarely used in the creation of Scotch whiskey. This maturation technique in several barrels allows the distillery to create 6 different flavor combinations that it then compares with the ones it already has in order to choose the favorite and finally give it a name. Laphroaig Select is the result of a careful choice between these 6 combinations by this distillery.
TASTING
View: Pure gold color.
Nose:
Aromas of peat embers in the fireplace along with notes of coconut and banana.
Mouth:
Characteristic flavors of Laphroaig, medicinal peat smoke and seaweed. Leaving in this expression a lot of room for notes of red fruits, lime and a soft floral finish.
