Description
PREPARATION
The unique marriage process allows the whiskeys used to make Cutty Sark to be blended together, and to be filtered at a higher temperature to avoid cold filtration. Consistently high quality is ensured by the hard work of our Master Blender. This whiskey is aged in carefully selected American oak barrels, which create the wonderful smooth and rich flavors of caramel and vanilla. On March 23, 1923, at the London wine merchants' hall, Berry Bros. & Rudd, Walter and Frances Berry and Hugh Rudd were enjoying lunch drinking their best wines with Scottish artist James McBey. They were discussing the possibility of creating a new Scotch whiskey for the American market. His idea was to create a different whiskey, designed to be mixed in the cocktails that people drank at the big parties of the time. The tea route sailing ship, Cutty Sark was in the news and its association with adventurers, and ocean liners, made it a good choice as a new whiskey, light and easy to drink, capable of taking the blend around the world.
TASTING
View: Very pale straw color.
Nose: Subtle smoky notes, apples and vanilla. Sweet aromas, like honey, accompanied by floral and herbaceous notes.
Mouth: Very light, almost without body. The smoky flavor that seemed to overtake the nose is perceived less, and basically floral and herbaceous notes can be detected, coming directly from the distillate. Quite sweet flavors also appear, probably due to the multiple grains of the whiskey.
