In 1654, Henry Morgan left his hometown to discover the Antilles. He quickly became a captain and became famous as a legal pirate or Buccaneer in defense of British interests. Centuries later Sam Bronfman, who was president of the Seagram beverage company, was the one who realized the opportunities that lay in the rum trade. This is how he founded the Captain Morgan Rum Company in 1945, and in turn, acquired a certain spiced rum formula from a family of pharmacists in the Jamaican capital. Thus began the history of this rum, one of the best known and sold in the world.
